NATION OF VIANDRIA

Crustara

A compact western nation of mountains, river valleys, fertile plains, open prairie, forest-edge country, and coastline—bound together by trade, craft, and carefully maintained routes.

Crustara sits in western Viandria, where mountains, rivers, farmland, prairie, and coast meet.

The Shape of Crustara

The Glazebite Mountains dominate the north and rise above the Pastrypolis region before bending northeast into lower valleys. From those heights, the Glazewater River descends through the capital region and travels west toward the Chantilly Sea, widening near the coast into the estuary around Savarin.

South of the capital, fertile lowlands support farms, orchards, vineyards, ranchland, and the Dulcis River basin around Saporia. Eastward, the country opens into prairie before reaching Crispen and the transition toward deeper forest country.

That gives the nation a natural progression from coast to river country, capital valley, mountain routes and southern farmland, then open prairie and the eastern frontier.

Five Cities, Five Roles

Crustara’s five principal cities each anchor a different part of national life.

Pastrypolis, capital of Crustara.

Pastrypolis

Capital and national heart. Crustara’s largest city is its civic, cultural, governmental, and economic center. Its position near the Glazebite Mountains and along the Glazewater River makes it a natural meeting point for the country’s major regions.

Pastrypolis is also the home of Cheesecake Emergency Services and the primary setting of The Cheesecake Chronicles.

Savarin

Western maritime gateway. Built around the sheltered Glazewater estuary near the Chantilly Sea, Savarin is Crustara’s principal seaport and second-largest city. It connects the interior with maritime trade, foreign travelers, coastal commerce, pilgrimage, and leisure.

Savarin, Crustara's western port city, with a broad harbor, ships, Gothic-inspired buildings, and the Chantilly Sea.

Saporia, Crustara's agricultural city, with canals, mills, orchards, markets, and hillside districts.

Saporia

Agricultural heart of Crustara. Saporia sits along the Dulcis River amid fertile southern plains. Its canals and irrigation network connect the city directly to surrounding farms, orchards, vineyards, ranchlands, and food production.

The city gathers, processes, markets, and redistributes much of the agricultural wealth that feeds the nation.

Qualden

Mountain craft and trade center. Qualden occupies a lower Glazebite valley where routes from mines, quarries, monasteries, mountain settlements, and high passes descend toward the lowlands.

It is especially known for smithing, stonework, toolmaking, engineering, and traditions of deliberate craftsmanship.

Crispen

Eastern frontier gateway. Crispen spreads across open prairie near the gradual transition toward deeper eastern forest country. Younger and less formal than Crustara’s older cities, it serves ranchers, merchants, foresters, scouts, travelers, and traffic moving between the heartland and the eastern interior.

Connected by Craft and Infrastructure

Roads, river routes, coastal shipping, canals, and regional trade paths connect Crustara’s major cities with towns, farms, mines, monasteries, ports, and frontier settlements.

Animal-drawn carts and wagons remain ordinary throughout the country, while automobiles exist as handcrafted machines produced by specialist builders rather than mass manufacture. Government services, emergency responders, merchants, and frequent travelers are among the groups most likely to use them.

Public works matter here. Roads, bridges, waterways, gates, and maintained routes are treated as practical systems that keep the nation connected.

A Nation Built to Stay Connected

Crustara is one of Viandria’s more technologically developed nations, but its advancement remains strongly craft-based. Skilled builders, engineers, artisans, and public works traditions matter as much as machinery itself.

Its major cities are not permanent fortress settlements. Defense is concentrated around borders, mountain passes, coastal approaches, major roads, river crossings, and other strategic points. The cities themselves are meant to feel open, productive, and lived in.

That mixture of openness, craftsmanship, infrastructure, and regional variety gives Crustara its identity—and makes it the natural home of Pastrypolis and Cheesecake Emergency Services.
